Revere receives increased funding for tornado repairs

Gov. Patrick announced that an additional $375,000 will go to the city of Revere to help with repairs from the July tornado.

The funding will help to expand the original revitalization project by a few blocks and will help with ornamental lighting, pedestrian safety features and reconstructed sidewalks.

“The additional $375,000 to the original grant award will go a long way in making Broadway a great place to live and work,” said Mayor Dan Rizzo. "It will certainly serve to ease the recovery from the July tornado that so damaged the downtown.”

On July 28, an F2 tornado touched down in Revere, causing significant damage to the area around Broadway, but the damages did not meet the minimum requirements for a FEMA disaster declaration.

The city started a GoFundMe campaign following the tornado and received thousands of dollars in donations.
